 | interestingly, this film provided a stark contrast from the book previously mentioned. french films have a tendency to portray its city and lifestyle as a glamorously romantic experience, and this film is no exception. yet, the film showcases, as well, a crude and brutally real existence, something that dreamgirls failed to deliver (a comparison made with respect to the film's musical/reality genre), in its 'we're a family' happy ending. even walk the line depicted a significantly milder, and less personal story. chronologically disturbing/confusing sequences, paired with marion cotillard's convincingly realistic portrayal of a druggie artiste makes up an enrapturing story of edith piaf. undoubtedly, the most mesmerising biopic in a long while.
