 | | my intent was to hold comments regarding the issue of the hike in ministerial pay, since there is no way to hold another ridiculous policy endorsed by the government in its tracks anyway. that is, until i read the article on the youngpap blog regarding green-eyed monsters.
normally, you wouldn't expect a 32 year old lawyer to be openly committing ad hominem and making such faulty arguments that i found it nothing less than entertaining. it makes the professionalism of the legal sector seem very much a facade. he places the legal profession on such high ground that it belies the status of other professions such as medicine.
a press release quoted him having "only less than five hours of sleep on some nights because he had to juggle his career as well as his 'CCA in politics'." i am impressed, though, that he gets sleep at all. medical interns work 48 hour shifts, private bankers are on call 24/7 and certain students from smu are rumoured to have 3 hours of sleep a day; it makes his dedication laughable.
and returning to the case regarding the overpriced paychecks, there is an obvious need to revise our vote for a true democratic state.
despite the argument being unsound, i like that someone brought up comments in the lazarus article regarding dr vivian balakrishnan mentioning that a financial aid of $290 per month was sufficient for the needy, in view of the hike in ministerial pay. i'm emotionally biased, after all. the exact quote from Today (Mar 31, 2007) below:
Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, the Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports, countered that there was "enough, by and large" for most on the PA scheme to get by. He stressed that everyone — from grassroots and voluntary welfare organisations (VWOs) to "compassionate" individuals and the Government — has a role to play in helping the needy and disadvantaged. doesn't this make us warm and fuzzy inside, knowing that our ministers care so much more about how we get by than how much they're earning? wowee.Labels: internet, news
