 | this is the album where joss stone promised would represent a move away from what is expected of her to reveal "the real her". the only problem to the equation in merging joss stone with urban hiphop beats is that her voice has such deep-rooted character that it shines through the ad lib to represent her as a soul artist more than a hiphop personality. undeniably, there is a heightened energy in her sound that brings us to finally believe the particular voice in question belongs to a teenager. the only song that stood out from the rest was "Bruised But Not Broken", infused with Motown girl group harmonies which managed to sucessfully mask some of the distinctness in her voice. sometimes it takes more than courage to steer away from what has been planned for us.
