Paris Je t'aime
translated and extracted from the final segment:

And then something happened,
something that is hard to describe.
Sitting there, alone in a foreign country,
far from my job and all the people I knew,
a feeling came over me.
As if I recalled something,
something that I had never known
and for which I had been waiting.
But I didn't know what it was.
Maybe it was something I had forgotten.
Or something I had missed my whole life.

I can only tell you that at the same time I felt joy and sadness.
But not a great sadness.
Because I felt alive.
Yes.
Alive.
That was the moment when I fell in love with Paris
and the moment I felt that Paris had fallen in love with me.

it wasn't a perfect film - there was the dreary opening scene and ridiculous vampire story featuring elijah wood. but it had its gems.

my top three are as follows:
1. Sylvain Chomet - Tour Eiffel
2. Isabel Coixet - Bastille
3. Alexander Payne - 14th arrondissement (quote featured above)

it was akin nibbling a collection of short stories and suffering indigestion. honestly, i didn't notice it was a collection by different directors until Christopher Doyle's "Porter de Choisy" screened before i realised the discrepancy of the artistic styles; it was so Royston Tan-ish. whee!

if you're looking for an extension of love actually to swoon over, this is not it. this, however, is an amazing collection by some of the world's greatest directors (mostly french), featuring too many different themes and directing styles, emotions sometimes get lost in translation. be prepared to be surprised by what Wes Craven (the horror director) can come up with :)
