		the dance floor
		will be one of channel 5's better productions this year. i was at the first public studio recording of the competition for the last of the shuffle rounds to "support" the dancers from LA Dance Connection (although i wasn't doing much supporting, given seats in the balcony are generally unnoticeable), and some performances, in between the many bothersome breaks, NGs and stage directions, were awesome. but what made it more than a cheap imitation of another successful reality tv show (ahem. so you think you can dance) as compared to the flop that singapore idol was, besides the appearance of talent that was at least semi-pro standard, was the intensity and passion on the judging panel. props goes first to bill calhoun for transforming monotonous speeches into spontaneous, enthusiastic criticisms, which i vigorously nodded my head to (except his stand on one of the performances). li lin was a gift too, for her ability to spit out vocabulary above the average singaporean's level of english language competency, and for her firm stance on the group that i thought was bad too. and then we have the good-lookers who provided some conflict and sanity, george chan and gladys tay respectively. unfortunately, artistic direction and stage deco (and probably camera angles) still suck.
